Urban Walthamstow Garden Design

What the Client Wanted From Their Garden
The client is keen to maximise the potential of this compact garden, aiming to create a seamless continuation of the interior living space outdoors. The new design should offer a welcoming area to relax and entertain, while also allowing flexibility for future family use. Storage solutions will be incorporated into the layout, and the design will make full use of the sunny aspect at the rear of the garden to enhance both functionality and enjoyment.
Garden Transformation Plan and Materials
Directly outside the double doors will be a section of white porcelain paving. A planting bed containing a huge bright mustard yellow planter will play with the scale in the garden, with a backdrop of a patterned Corten steel laser cut screen and Dicksonia Antarctica to create a stunning focal point from the house interior. The boundary fences will be painted with dark grey Cuprinol Garden Shades ‘Urban Slate’.
A small timber storage unit will be positioned at the end of the sideway and painted to match the boundaries. The rest of the side return will contain a small area of artificial lawn.
A cedar decking pathway will lead to the back of the garden, enclosed by a cedar pergola with a Corten steel decorative screen as an overhead canopy, casting lovely shadows across the space.
The rear of the garden will contain a porcelain patio positioned to make the most of the sunniest area of the garden, with a backdrop of fibreglass planters of various heights positioned around the edge of the space.
Planting in the garden will focus on texture with a yellow and white colour palette. A combination of leafy evergreens and flowering perennials it will provide a lush tropical feel all year round.
